Andrew Krause Candidate, Coweta County Board of Education District 1

About Me

My mugshotThis is where I would normally write about myself, but I'd like to focus on what makes me the ideal person to represent the 1st District on the Coweta County School Board.

For starters, I have a strong background in education. In fact, I married into a family of educators. My wife has a degree in Speech and Communications Disorders, and taught special needs children before becoming a full time mother. My mother-in-law is a veteran educator in the Fayette County School system where she teaches computer science in a technology course designed around the needs of young adults entering college or the work force. As an engineering student a few years back, I myself worked part time in the computer lab helping students use targeted learning software to overcome learning disabilities or earn a GED. I have seen multiple facets of education as both a student, an educator and a parent.

I also bring a strong background of leadership with me. At only 21 years of age, I managed one of the top grossing stores for a national car audio retailer. At 25 years of age, I enlisted in the US Army under the 18X program. After being honorably discharged from service, I went on to pursue a Pre-Engineering degree and was active in several volunteer organizations through the college. Today, I provide the most important kind of leadership I can; raising my son and daughter to believe in themselves and to pursue excellence in every activity.

I have long believed that education is the single most important service that government can provide (and one of the few that it should). The benefits to residents, local businesses and the economy in general provide a return in excess of what is being spent. However, as a conservative I strongly believe that we need to spend money wisely and tailor our education to the needs and wishes of the community. We need to actively involve parents and citizens in education and reinforce this importance to the children themselves. Most of all, we must meet the diverse educational needs of students in order to prepare them for the 21st century.

I chose to run for schoolboard so that I could help bring new ideas and new direction to Coweta County, and to bolster the innovation and improvement already taking place. On November 2nd, I'll be asking for your vote.
